Photo Manipulation



HDR


One of the ways of digital photo manipulation is HDR. It is a picture edited by combining three or five pictures of different exposures in order to create a very interesting picture with very detail highlights and shadows. The meaning of HDR is High Dynamic Range. The picture used in this technique is a normal picture and one or two under expose picture and over expose picture. This can be done by using Adobe Photoshop or Photomatix.




















Tutorial
Here are some tutorials on how to use Photomatix to generate HDR image.

Firstly, open Photomatix and Generate HDR Image. 



Browse for the selected pictures. The pictures selected must be more than one image consist of a normal exposure image, one or two images of that have been taken with under exposure and one or two images of over exposure. The photographs taken must be using tripod to ensure that the images are just the same.



Click OK for the images that have been selected.



The Generate HDR Option window will open. Check the Align source images by matching features. The Attempt to reduce ghosting artifacts box need to be checked too in Moving objects/people.



The process will continue after clicking OK.



The result of the process will be like this. Then, click Tone Mapping.



This step will let the process of colour editing. For the Details Enhancer, used the Strength of 70, Colour Saturation of 79, Light Smoothing of 4 and no Luminosity. Use 3.940% of White Point, 3.654% of Black Point and 1.16 of Gamma for the Tone. All these settings can be adjust by referring to the image result preview. Click the Process button.



This will need a few seconds to get the result.



This is the result of HDR image for the Night photograph. The same steps can be used to edit other images.
